Garden of Life

garden of life uk logoGarden of Life is a well-known brand in the USA, and I’m very excited that a UK shop has opened too! That means no more trawling Amazon for their products.

As you may know, I’m a fan of supplements when I’m busy, on the go, or feeling run-down. However, I don’t just want to buy them from anywhere! Supplements can be of varying quality, made from chemicals or synthetic creations. That’s the reason I go for Garden of Life – they have various certifications and don’t mess about with unhealthy mass production. In their own words: garden of life protein powder

“Well, while the other guys spend their time preoccupied with their efficiency, we’re uncompromising about your health. Slow it down, make it by hand, grow it in rich organic non-GMO soil with enough sun, air, water and time for it to be its best. Harvest it when ready. Treat it with care. Turn it into a power-packed nutritious food supplement. That’s what we are about. “

Some other plus points:

  • They offer free delivery.
  • You can get next day delivery if you order before midnight.
  • There’s a range of products including all-in-one shakes, and vitamin sprays.

Have you ever tried their Vanilla Protein Powder? You have to! It’s my absolute favourite. I often have a scoop in a milkshake or my morning smoothie to jazz it up a little. The powder is also non-chalky, organic and has 22g of protein in it. If you are new to smoothies, I have a really easy guide on how to find fab combinations whilst getting the nutrition in. Vanilla flavours taste particularly good with a strawberry and banana smoothie.

They have a very short term offer: 35% off Garden of Life Supplements, Vitamins and Probiotics, with code ‘HELLO35’. This expires on 8th September 2019, so be quick to catch it!

But… there’s also another promotion. Throughout September, you can get 30% off EVERYTHING plus free delivery, by using the code ‘ORGANIC’.

  • The quest for perfection scares people out of going vegan.

I don't mind sharing that when I went vegan I made mistakes.

I bought salt and vinegar crisps with milk in them (just WHY?), and I couldn't get my head around the difference between cruelty-free and vegan toiletries. In the early weeks I even thought all Quorn products were vegan.

Trust me, it was a learning curve. But I was kind to myself, and I got there!

You don't need to beat yourself up. Nobody is giving you marks out of 10. We've all been there, we've all made mistakes. Don't let the fear stop you from getting on the vegan path!

What step can you take today?

  • Making the leap from vegetarian to vegan?
On the fence or feeling pressure?

People often think that veganism has to be an overnight transition, so end up panicking and backing out. That’s a whole lot of pressure!

A slow move to veganism is fine, too. It actually took me around 6 months to go fully vegan. First I started to buy plant-based milks and other dairy products, to test them out and find what was easy to get hold of (and tasty too). Next, I focussed on eggs. Finally, I looked at other aspects of my life such as hidden ingredients (e-numbers), clothing and cosmetics.

By educating myself and swapping out one thing at a time, I found the transition really easy and stayed vegan for good.

What could you reasonably swap out first? Go do it! Small steps really make a difference.

  • Bank holiday in the garden anyone?
That's what we'll be doing! We're having a lovely BBQ later on, but I'll be quickly rustling up these scones too.
They're so quick and easy!
What are you eating today?

PS. If you make these, add coconut, berries, raisins to the mixture if it takes your fancy.

Ingredients:

110 g self-raising flour
0.5 tsp baking powder
0.5 tsp cinnamon
30 g vegan butter
30 g sugar
70 g chopped strawberries
200 ml plant milk (soya is fine)

Instructions:

Combine the flour, baking powder, sugar and cinnamon.
Mix in the butter.
Add the strawberries.
Add milk in 20ml increments, using enough to make a soft dough. You may not need to use the entire 200ml.
Roll out the dough and use a cutter to shape.
Place on a baking sheet and brush with milk.
Bake for 10 minutes and ENJOY!

  • Wait… alcohol isn’t vegan?
🤔🤔
It’s something that I didn't even consider when I first went vegan. I'm not a big drinker anyway, but when I did have a glass of wine with a meal, or cocktail on holiday, I never even thought twice about it!
🤓🤓
Many vegans don’t consider it either, but unfortunately, alcohol can have hidden animal products. Beer can be filtered/fined with isinglass (from fish bladders), wine can contain crushed insects for colouring, and liqueurs sometimes have dairy in them.
🐜🐜
I’d like to ensure sure your drinking antics match up with your morals, and line you up with a nice vegan alcoholic drink.
🍹🍹
So what are my top tips for getting your hands on vegan alcohol?
